I abandoned this blog years ago, after Day 8 of my month without Facebook. Since I rediscovered this Blogger account, I thought I would post an update to let you know how it all turned out:
Did you finish the month with Facebook, or did you give in to temptation?
I *did* finish it! And I did not die from Facebook withdrawal!
Have you resumed use of Facebook?
Hells yes, I have. And I'm exploring Twitter, too. I love social networking media.
Did you learn anything from this experience? Did it change you in any way?
I learned that I was absolutely right about my need to step away for a while. It helped me to see how I was hurting my loved ones and missing out on some parts of life by choosing a screen over all else. Although I have returned to Facebook, I feel that I am more aware of my vulnerability to getting sucked into it, and I don't hesitate to close my laptop or put down my phone when people "IRL" need and deserve my attention. If you want to read the words of someone who has done this better and describes it more eloquently, check out the book "Hands Free Mama" by Rachel Macy Stafford.
Did you resolve all of your personal problems, cure cancer, end world hunger, and revolutionize the technology industry?
Uhhhhhh ... no. But I did quit my job. I am now happily puttering at home, making life less stressful for myself and everyone else in my family, and toying with the idea of starting another blog.
Thanks for reading!
